Basic Technology
Course Description:
Welcome to the world of basic technology! In this course, we will explore the materials and processes that engineers and craftspeople use to create the things we use every day, from the
wood in our furniture to the
metals in our tools. You will gain hands-on skills in various workshops, understand the principles of
energy and
electricity, and learn how technology shapes our world.
What You Will Learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify and describe the properties of common materials like metals, non-metals, and wood, explaining how these properties influence their use in practical applications.
- Perform and apply accurate scale drawing techniques to create technical drawings of simple objects, using appropriate instruments and materials.
- Safely and effectively use basic workshop tools and equipment to complete simple projects in both wood and metal, demonstrating a strong understanding of workshop safety procedures.
- Relate fundamental technological principles to real-world applications, such as understanding how energy is used to power electrical circuits and the methods used for food storage and processing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic workshop practices by completing at least one wood and one metal project, from initial design to final construction, while adhering to all safety guidelines.
