Course Description:
This course equips Year 12 learners with practical and theoretical knowledge of food, nutrition, and cookery, focusing on special nutritional needs,
beverages,
cultural food habits, and safe food reuse. Students will develop hands-on skills through
experimental cookery and food practicals while learning how nutrition supports health, culture, and everyday living.
What You Will Learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the nutritional needs of different groups (children, adults, the elderly, and special needs) with at least 80% accuracy in class assessments.
- Prepare a variety of beverages and reheated (réchauffé) foods using correct methods during practical sessions within the allotted time.
- Analyse how cultural food habits influence food choices and nutrition by completing a short project or presentation.
- Apply experimental cookery techniques to modify recipes and evaluate outcomes based on taste, safety, and nutritional value.
- Demonstrate proper food handling, hygiene, and serving skills during food and nutrition practicals, meeting all safety standards set by the course.
